Summer festival history
История летнего фестиваля Касукабэ

Yasaka Shrine, also called Gozu Tenno Shrine, has long been worshipped as the market deity of Kasukabe-juku. Records from the late Edo period, the "Shukuyodome" and "Koyokagami," describe the Tenno festival of 1825 (Bunsei 8), held in the sixth month of the old calendar.
They record that lanterns were hung along the houses, each neighborhood put up decorations and danced, mikoshi were carried through the post town, and stands for sacred sake stacked with barrels were set up.
Picture postcards of the Yasaka Shrine festival from the Taisho era also show each neighborhood's mikoshi and float decorations; apart from the utility poles and storehouse-style buildings, they convey the look of the Edo-period festival well.
The festival was suspended for a time after the war, but in 1973, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the city, it was revived by the Tourism Association as today's summer festival parade.
It is now held on the weekend closest to July 13.
